Worthy of the King's Table

Do you ever feel like you aren't good enough in your job, your marriage, parenting, or something else?

We all feel that way from time to time, but many women have a deep feeling of not being enough. I think more women deal with this than we realize. We won’t talk about it, but it hides just beneath the surface waiting to make us feel broken and unworthy.

Why do so many of us seem to have this innate belief? It often stems from a situation in our past that caused a wound that never healed. But whatever caused you to feel this way, does it continue to make an appearance and affect you in a negative way?

Mephibosheth felt like he wasn’t good enough, he was broken. 2 Samuel 9 tells the story of Mephibosheth. If you haven’t read it, I encourage you to. Mephibosheth is Saul’s grandson and Jonathan’s son. David has taken the throne, but he remembers the special friendship that he had with Jonathan. He wanted to do something special for Jonathan’s decedents. Mephibosheth was the only one.

But Mephibosheth was crippled because he was dropped as a young child. During this time period, a person would have been looked down upon for having a deformity or disability. He would have been a beggar, with little to offer.

David looked past Mephibosheth’s disability. He returned Saul’s property to him, and he asked him to eat with him at the king’s table. In 2 Samuel 9:8 (ESV), Mephibosheth replied, “What is your servant, that you should show regard for a dead dog such as I?” He was saying, “What do you want with me, I am not worthy enough to sit at the king’s table and who am I that you would give me those possessions?” A beggar, dining with the king and living on the king’s land? Mephibosheth did not think he was worthy of such things.

Maybe you have a reason to feel unworthy. Did someone “drop you” in the past? Did someone make you feel like you weren’t good enough?

No matter why or in what areas of your life you feel unworthy, I’m here to tell you that you are worthy.

Do you know WHY you are worthy? Because just like king David chose and invited Mephibosheth to sit at the king’s table, your King has chosen you too.

The king has chosen you to sit at the His table. The king has chosen you for the job that you have. The king has chosen you to be in the marriage you are in. The king has chosen you to be the mother of your children. You have been CHOSEN, not placed by chance.

So whenever you are feeling unworthy, unloved, broken, or alone; remember who’s you are. Whenever that little voice in your head wants to rise up and tell you that you aren’t enough, remember that you are a child of the King. Remember that you are chosen. Remember that you are enough, you are MORE than enough - because you are His!

Lord Jesus, thank you for choosing me. Thank you that I can sit at the king’s table. I pray that when I am feeling broken and unworthy, I can come to the table and remember that I am yours, that I am chosen, and I am loved. Amen
