As I sit here tonight, I am feeling so many emotions. Tears have been brought about by the tiniest things today because I am consumed by feeling overwhelmed. The to-do list, both at home and at work, are never ending. I can’t keep up, so I can forget about trying to get ahead. I have decisions to make, a household to maintain, family members and students that are depending on me, and there is devastating news happening in our country and around the world. I feel a huge heaviness today that I just can’t shake. And everyone around me can see it.
But as I sit down with my laptop and a cup of tea to try and accomplish some of the tasks on my to-do list, I sense God calling to me. I realize that instead of listening to that voice inside my head reminding me of everything I need to get done, I need to sit and steep; just like that tea bag in my cup.
When a tea bag sits in a cup of boiling water, the water rehydrates the dry leaves. Do you know what else happens as that tea bag soaks in that boiling water? The water brings out the flavor and richness of the tea and prepares it for its purpose. The tea is being prepared to be consumed. As I steep, God is preparing to be used by Him, and He is refreshing my weary soul.
Today, it is very apparent that I need to steep in His presence and let Him restore and rehydrate my anxious spirit. Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” I need to soak and wait for Him to rehydrate me. And once I have spent time with Him, I will be able to do what He has called me to do. I will be renewed and refreshed.
We all get weary in our day to day activities, but we still have a job to do. Whatever God has called you to do, you can’t do it without letting God rehydrate you in His presence. He will renew your strength and restore your weary soul. But you must WAIT and soak in His presence. That may be reading your Bible, listening to worship music, or it may be spending time in prayer. Whatever you need, take the time. He is already there waiting on you. You just need to enter in.
Journal Prompt: What is making me anxious, stressed, overwhelmed today? How can I make time to steep, and soak in His presence?
Prayer: Lord, thank you that you are always there and waiting for me. Thank you that I can just be still and soak in your presence. Help me overcome the feelings that are weighing me down. I pray that as I am restored and refreshed I can go on with my day to day routines and do the work that you have called me to do. Help me to recognize when I need to stop and soak. Amen
