He Will Carry You Through

Isaiah 46:4 says, “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” (NIV)

My grandma’s favorite poem was “Footprints in the Sand.” She had a picture of this poem in the bedroom where I slept when I stayed all night. I must have read it hundreds of times as a kid. If you haven’t read it, it paints a beautiful picture of how God not only walks with us but carries us through troubling times.

In the poem, a man has a dream of walking along the beach with God. He revisits scenes of his life and gets upset because when he looked back over his life, he only saw one set of footprints during his most difficult times in life.

How often do you feel alone on your journey? How often do you pray and feel like God’s not listening?

We’ve all been there. Several years ago, God took me on a path to self-discovery. The life I was living was not the life that God had intended for me.

I was uncertain of who I was. I was uncertain of God and His plans for me. Depression and feelings of anxiety filled every day as I re-lived past hurts in hopes that I could heal and live a happy, healthy life. Many times I wondered where God was through my pain as I searched myself and re-lived those hurts. Often, I felt empty, weak, and alone.

But no matter how I felt during that time, I can now look back and see that God was there every step of the way. He was guiding me and directing my every step. Just like in the poem, I can see God’s footprints and not my own because He carried me through.

Isaiah 46:4 says, “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” (NIV)

This scripture gives me hope that I am important to Him, and He will NEVER leave me. Without a doubt, I know that He will carry me and guide me through whatever trials I may face.

My journey seemed long, but I made it through. Without my season of uncertainty, I would not be where I am today. God used my uncertainty and struggle to reveal to me my purpose during that season of my life, and I’m stronger because I endured.

I don’t know where you are in your journey, but I do know that God is with you; He is carrying you, and He will provide anything that you need or ask.

God does not intend for us to suffer, but life isn’t always easy. Our road gets rocky, and we must cling to Him.

Have hope and lean into His arms of love. Allow Him to make your burden lighter, and rest in the assurance that He will carry you through.

Lord, thank you that you will never leave me. As I face trials, and sometimes feel alone, I pray that you will help me to remember that you will lead me and guide me through whatever I face. Help me rest in the assurance that you will carry me through. Thank you for providing all I need. Amen

Journal prompt: Is there a trial I am currently facing that I need God to carry me through? Is there any trial that I can look back on that I can see that God was working even if I didn’t see it at the time?
